Working holidays

Working holidays are an enjoyable and rewarding break where you can quickly feel you are part of our thriving community.

Vajrapani Centre has moved to the former Birkby Baptist Church. We are currently working to transform this beautiful historic building into a Kadampa Buddhist Centre, so that it can become a place of refuge for future generations. So far we have converted the large chapel into a meditation hall and the lower ground floor into a home for our Buddhist community. We have also created a World Peace Cafe and begun plans for the World Peace Garden as well. To help no qualifications are needed except lots of energy and a wish to experience being part of a remarkable project.

What to expect
We will provide accommodation and two meals a day in return for 35 hours work a week. The work is varied and could include cooking, gardening, office work, decorating etc. We are always interested to hear about any specific skills you may be able to offer.

The Spiritual Programme
As a visitor you are welcome to take part in the spiritual activities at Vajrapani Centre. During term times these include Meditation Classes, Day Courses and daily chanted prayers. These classes are all free to working visitors.

Food and Accommodation

All meals are vegetarian and we offer workers dormitory accommodation - all you need to do is bring a sleeping bag and suitable clothing. As Vajrapani Centre is a Buddhist Centre visitors are asked not to drink alcohol/ smoke on the premises or play loud music.
