About the classes

Our meditation classes are suitable for both beginners and those more experienced in meditation techniques. In each class we are guided through a simple meditation and hear an informal talk about Buddhist practices that will help us in our daily life.

There is the opportunity to ask questions, a few minutes of traditional prayers and some light refreshments after class. The classes are organised as short courses but each individual class is self contained so you can drop in at anytime. Each class costs £5.

Teacher of class - James McDonald

We meditate sitting on chairs to ensure that everyone is comfortable.
There is no physical exercise involved.

The general structure of the class:

  • Introduction to the meditation theme
  • Simple guided meditation
  • Teaching on how to solve problems in daily life
  • Another meditation or questions & answer

After the class everyone is welcome to stay for light refreshments

What is Meditation?

Meditation is a method for acquainting our mind with virtue. The more familiar our mind is with virtue, the calmer and more peaceful it becomes. When our mind is peaceful we are free from worries and mental discomfort, and we experience true happiness.

If we train our mind to become peaceful we will be happy all the time, even in the most adverse conditions. But if our mind is not peaceful, even if we have the most pleasant external conditions we will not be happy. Therefore it is important to train our mind through meditation.

Attending the class

The classes are organized as short courses, usually 3, 4 or 5 weeks long. You can attend the whole course or simply drop in whenever you can as each class is self-contained, or you can just come along to try a session.

You do not need to book in advance. If you would like more information or help, please contact us on 01484 469652 or email us at info@vajrapanicentre.org.
